Will still buy a 3800 as soon as I can get it somewhat locally, and if the 380 will not easily do simple cropping and adjustments without a computer, I will chalk the cost of that up to salvaging the in the box ink.I purchased the R260 to supplement the smaller prints I need, and to avoid having to meet the minimums of Whcc for small andor time sensitive orders.First, let me point out that I have this problem using all 3 of my computers, and have used them for years, printing to Canon and Lexmark printers (for pesrsonal use only), as well as pro labs such as Whcc (White House Custom Colour) and EZ-prints, a local pro printer, and even Walgreens and Walmart without any color issues.
I used Gamma1.8, Epson standard color mode (Images are sRGB, I dont work in Adobe RGB) with no enhancements. The first prints (5x7) were dark and had a yellow cast and horrible blues, so I increased brightness and reduced the yellow in increments, only reveal too much purple in the blues and blacks. I reduced the magenta as well, which helped only a little, but blues are getting weaker and weaker (and lighter) with these adjustments. In the process of trying to get the right color from this printer, Ive already wasted the light cyan and light magenta cartriges, and the others are close behind. So, before I have to waste another 80 in ink, Id like to know that this printer will ever work properly. Are there any new profiles available for the R260 Other suggestions Im about to go postal. Check if the printers basic paper profile installed with the driver is set as default. In Photoshop, ensure the print settings are set to Let printer determine colors. Then in the Epson driver, click on advanced and select ICM color management. Im in the process now of using my EyeOne to create custom profiles, so well see how these compare. Dave. Ill give it another try now that Im getting somewhere with the color. Progress update - I tried printing using Adobe RGB (I shootwork in sRGB), and that appears to have made a big difference. I tried switching to premium presentation matte setting, and the images are. On occassion the prints a a tad darker than on screen, but the colors are perfect. You do have to select the proper paper type in the final set up for the printer. In spite of my loathing for the claria type printers appetites, I did order a 380 today. I have a specific use for its abilities at computerless printing just 4x6. Sadly, I think this whole claria thing portends a new era in Epson prosumer type printers. It is significant to note that Comp Usa seems to be dumping the 260380 with pretty deep instant discounts. Epson R260 Software That IsPerhaps Epson has not been watching the pricing of on line print shops and even some high end internet print shops, nor the development of uploading software that is so easy, even a caveman can do it, or the advent of Kodak type printing stations.
